My name is Alice Piacenti, and I created Spotlight For All for my senior project. Throughout this project, I have had the opportunity to learn more about poverty and how it shapes a person life, particularly a child’s life. I have learned that poverty can be caused by a multitude of reasons and is more common in our communities than we may think. “Among seventy million children in the world, eleven million experience poverty” (The Children’s Defense Fund). Poverty can affect a child’s health, social development, and academic achievement. Theater, as well other performing arts, can significantly help in all of these areas, as provides children with a safe place to have fun and grow while also learning valuable life lessons. It inspires creativity, which is essential for a child, among other things.
